Haute Couture is a French phrase for high fashion. Couture means dressmaking, sewing, or needlework and haute means elegant or high, so the two combined imply excellent artistry with the fashioning of garments. Dependant on the design house and the garment, the cost of an item can runs from about USD10,000 for a simple blouse to more than USD40,000 and often beyond that figure making it an impossible proposition for most fashion aware people.

With Apple selling hundreds of million iPods worldwide, the potential for Ewaste in huge. They don't last forever, and tempting new models are always just around the corner. There are alternatives: used or broken iPods could be sold on eBay, where hundreds of Apple's music players are listed for sale for parts or refurbishing. But many consumers can't be bothered with finding out how to list a product, and don't want to deal with potential customers.

A new concept could greatly accelerate the development of green innovation, helping some of the world's best brands work together toward the same goal, and start to think differently in terms of how they share ideas. A small group of companies took to heart earlier this year, setting up a project for sharing of intellectual property for green product design. The initiative is hosted by Creative Commons, with Nike and Best Buy leading the way.
