Cardboard is a generic non-specific term for a heavy duty paper based
product, which are primarily used for packaging goods and materials. It is a
bulky, highly recyclable waste and keeping this material out of the waste stream
will mean saving landfill space in areas where disposed materials are land
filled and reducing pollution through avoided incineration where waste is
incinerated. Businesses can actually make a profit on the recycling of this
material and some very clever designers have found innovative methods to
use it, creating from portable toilets to entire rooms.

Citizens have a right to know what toxic chemicals are being released into their communities. Luckily for US citizens, there's an internet database where you can find precise information about pollution problems and toxic chemicals. It allows you to view your neighborhood by zip code, and to view the types of hazards you're constantly exposed to, as well as a map of pollution and of course the culprits.

A French company has developed a pollution-free car which runs on compressed air and India's Tata Motors has the car under production and it may be on sale in Europe and India by the end of the year. The "air car", also known as the Mini-CAT (Compressed Air Technology ) or City Cat, can be refueled in minutes from an air compressor at specially equipped gas stations and can go 200 km on a fill-up and the top speed will be almost 70 mph.

Humans pollute the air in many ways, but the single most contaminating activity is mining for gold. According to the EPA, mercury pollution from trash incineration, hazardous waste collection, and mercury mining combined still does not add up to half the total amount of mercury pollution made by gold mining. After the metal has been mined, approximately 63 percent is used in jewelry, 21 percent as coins, 15 percent in industrial use, and the other 1 percent in dental. So anything we can do to reduce this pollution is a welcomed activity.

73 billion Styrofoam cups/plates and 190 billion plastic containers and bottles are thrown away every year. Medical evidence suggests that chemicals, as benzene & styrene in EPS (expanded polystyrene) foam are carcinogenic and may leach into food and drink. EPS cups, containers and plastic bags, are a major source of pollution on our beaches - especially after a rainstorm. EPS breaks down into small pieces, often mistaken for food by marine animals, birds and fish.

Forget about rechargeable batteries that are plugged to a nearby electrical outlet - there are now Pee Powered batteries that are being tested in Japan. Dubbed the NoPoPo (Non-Pollution Power) Aqua Batteries, these will come in AA and AAA form factors. They are environmentally friendly and do not contain mercury or other harmful materials.

In ecological terms, how we bury our dead is unsustainable. In contrast, a simpler, greener movement that requires fewer natural resources and causes less pollution is emerging that will change the way the $11 billion corporate and consolidated funeral business funeral service profession operates, which is currently dominated by just three conglomerates—Service Corp. International, Alderwoods (formerly the Loewen Group) and Stewart Enterprises.

Even though the earth is 2/3 water, only 3/10 of one percent is suitable for domestic use. Most of the water falling from the sky never gets absorbed by plants, but rather goes into our sewer systems or simply drains to the ocean eroding our unprotected soil. Rainwater harvesting is also effective in reducing storm water runoff pollution.
