Several studies have shown that children living in households that received plain soap and hand washing educational materials had a 50% lower incidence of pneumonia, a 53% lower incidence of diarrhea and a 34% lower incidence of impetigo.
Because of these and other significant findings, it has been proven that hand washing with soap prevents the two diseases that cause the largest number of childhood deaths globally - diarrheal illness and acute lower respiratory infection. Also, hand washing along with daily bathing prevents impetigo, a contagious skin infection that usually produces blisters or sores on the face, neck, hands.
Clean the World Foundation is a non-profit charity organization committed to the prevention of illness and death caused by Acute Respiratory Infection and Diarrheal Disease in countries across the globe. Every year over 5 million lives are lost to these diseases with the majority of deaths being children under five years old.
In an effort to prevent these needless deaths from occurring, Clean the World Foundation distributes recycled soap products along with the appropriate educational materials to domestic homeleess shelters and impoverished countries worldwide. Each month, hundreds of thousands of hotels and motels across the world discard tons of slightly-used soap and shampoo. These products often end up in already overflowing landfills and can potentially contaminate fragile ground-water systems. Through our Participating Partners Program, Clean the World Foundation collects and repurposes these products using environmentally-friendly and hygienically-safe recycling efforts. With the donations of discarded soap and shampoo, Clean the World Foundation is a step closer to reaching our goal of preventing the millions of lives lost each year.
